Lurid Trunk Slime

Looks like this (scroll down). Something you don't see in the Southern Rockies, in my experience, at least.

We had this stuff on our backyard elms when we lived on the hill, actually. I figured it was a fungus of some kind, but never knew more until now.

Elms ... so it does happen on non-native trees in the Rockies?

Not that I've ever seen. There are a few more in neighborhoods around here, but damned if I've ever seen a healthy one.
