On The Road: Flashback

No octopi today.

Still in the afterglow of our trip to the Monterey Peninsula, M. and I re-watched the movie last night.

One of these days I really need to read both books. I enjoy Steinbeck's work, but I just have not paid him a visit in a long time.

I'm sorry I somehow missed that you had visited my stomping grounds. I live in PG, about 1/2 mile from the Aquarium. I know about Steinbeck but didn't know about the movie. Hope you had a good trip. Love that you came by train, but the herd of raccoons thing is odd. Where'd you stay when you were in the Monterey area? We get asked frequently about good hotels, but living here doesn't lend itself well to knowing about the hotels. It's funny your wife loved that PG house. I remember when it was first painted about 8 or 9 years ago. It really looked crappy and the paint has chipped off more with age. Only people with too much money want new things to look old. And, yes, the sea lions stink to high heaven. The stench often keeps me from keeping a closer eye on nesting cormorants that often share the same rocks as sea lions in the early summer. The townsfolk were up in arms when they sprayed the ice plant with Roundup, hence the sign. They sometimes give a tour of the Doc Ricketts lab you show here for $25, but you can walk for free along the public access corridor next to the InterContinental for interpretive signs in the back. I look forward to more photos.

We stayed at the Sea Breeze in Pacific Grove -- one of the cottages. Liked it.

Thanks, Chas. I always forget about the cluster of smaller hotels at the end of Lighthouse.
